Each performance is approximately 40 minutes long. During this time sand slowly runs through small apertures, and the weight displacement creates movement, movement creates meaning. There is a “Golden Book” made for and accompanying the performances, it begins with this score:
Start with stillness. First stay until…Then do a phrase not in words, as slowly as you can. You are not a lump of clay, or without grace,or an animal in the wild. Try not to lose any of the moments between the beginning and the end. And then stop.
The invitation to the audience is to slow down, to have a collective experience in which the nuances are the loudest thing in the room. To experience Time. The first object is made of recycled styrofoam, grass mats, paper, rope and bungee cord, and sand.The second object is made of rope, plastic bags and sand.
